Architecton 30

Architect and artist Leonhard Lapin created the architecton 30 to celebrate the 30th birthday of the Estonian Museum of Architecture. The Estonian Concrete Association, together with the Museum of Architecture, installed the artwork in front of the museum with the support of entrepreneurs.

This is one of the exhibits from The Houses That We Need, an exhibition celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Museum of Architecture. Sixteen architects and artists, including Leonhard Lapin, who was once one of the greatest supporters of the idea of establishing an architecture museum, were tasked with creating an object tentatively called a house, which was to be designed to provide us with a more beautiful and secure future on planet Earth.

Architecton 30 is made of white concrete and steel; its main elements are 16 lightweight concrete posts with a 30 × 30 cm cross-section and of different heights as well as a 7-metre-high rectangular hollow section. At the foot of the posts is a steel plate covered with a rust layer, which contains the details of the work and the names of the patrons.

The architecton belongs to the Museum of Architecture and will remain next to Ahtri Street at least until the next anniversary of the museum in 2026.
