The Keila substation was last modernised in 1970 in connection with the activation of the Paldiski nuclear reactor. Now OÜ Põhivõrk (Elering) decided to renovate the Keila substation. The new substation came to be fully automatic and controllable from the central control centre with the help of easy-care devices. We had to construct a brand new 110 and 35 kV switchgear and reconstruct the 10 kV part; two power transformers weighing 77 and 100 tons were placed on new foundations. We replaced 110 kV dead-end supports and guided all 35 and 10 kV lines out of the substation with cables. A new 60 m high communication mast was mounted and new buildings of Elering and Jaotusvõrk for relay protection, controls and auxiliaries were built We also placed the 35 kV switchgear and new 10 kV devices into the building of Jaotusvõrk. The old substation was completely dismantled. New water supply and sewerage, drainage system with oil separation, enclosure and service roads, security and fire alarm system were established.

We managed to do the design work ourselves, also the construction side received help from our own house. Quantities of cables placed into the ground were big – 3.5 km of 10 kV cable and 6 km of 35 kV cable. The procurement of secondary devices and the setup was made by our own team – the work was fast and precise.

On 1 July 2021, Merko Ehitus Eesti acquired a stake in Connecto Eesti, and the Merko electrical construction business line merged with Connecto.
