The intermodal terminal at Kaunas Public Logistics Centre is constructed in Palemonas, near the main Lithuanian highway Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda where the logistics companies are being incorporated and Kaunas free economic zone is located nearby. It is planned that the constructed terminal will be used not only for the needs of the public logistics centre, but also be the final European (1,435 mm width) railway track point to be built during the first stage. The cargos transported from the Southern and Western Europe and related in the terminal will further move towards North and East. Four railway tracks for cargos (two tracks of different width) will be constructed, one 40 tonne lifting capacity gantry container crane and storage ground for up to 1000 containers will be arranged. Beside the main access road to the territory of the planned intermodal terminal Merko statyba UAB constructs a two-storey administrative building with store-housing premises. On the ground floor of the building there are equipped premises meant for Kaunas territorial customs office: office rooms of customs officers, sanitary and rest premises, kitchen, room (storeroom) for storage of seized goods. Furthermore, it is planned to equip a lounge for clients, public sanitary facilities, terminal cash registers, premises for phytosanitary and veterinary services, security premises, two truck inspection posts, terminals of engineering networks and premises for container reloading, temporary storage of goods and temporary seizure of goods. Beside an exit from the territory an inspection post with two inspection points is constructed.
