The purpose of this project was to enable the Port of Tallinn to handle wastewater streams from ships. From a collection tank of a docked ship, the wastewater is pumped through the pipeline and sent on to the Tallinn city sewerage system. A water metering centre was established on the Port of Tallinn property line. As the Vanasadama Harbour is used by many ships, 446 metres of a 800 mm-diameter tunnel collector and 201 m of a 600 m-diameter tunnel collector was built. In addition, 676 metres of pipes were laid using conventional means in an open trench. Six shaft wells were established along the tunnel collector, plus a downstream water metering well measuring 800 mm in diameter. The automatic system in the metering well is compatible with the remote surveillance and control systems used by AS Tallinna Vesi water utility and the Port of Tallinn.
